Floyd Reifer is new coach of West Indies
Two times World Cup champiosn will start their WC campaign against Pakistan in Nottingham on May 31.
Antigua: Cricket West Indies have appointed Floyd Reifer as their new coach on Thursday after sacking Richard Pybus. Reifer's appointment is a part of administrative changes in CWI with less than two months to go before the ICC World Cup 2019, which will be held in England and Wales.
Reifer played eight ODI, one T20I and six Test matches for West Indies between 1997 and 2009. After taking retirement from the game he moved to coaching.
Speaking about Reifer's appoitnmnet, CWI's new president Ricky Skerritt said changes were necessary and a "calculated strategic move" to reignite the passion for cricket in the region.
"Up to the end of 2018 Floyd Reifer had been identified as the outstanding emerging local coach," Skerritt said.
"He displayed this by leading the West Indies A team successfully, including victories against the England Lions, and ended the past year by coaching the Senior men's team to a T20 series win in Bangladesh."
Englishman Pybus join West Indies in January replacing Australia's Stuart Law. During Pybus era, Windies won a Test series against England, while the limited overs series against three lions ended in a 2-2 draw.
Meanwhile, Robert Haynes replaced Courtney Browne as chief selector. "We have found it necessary to immediately adjust our selection policy to become more open, inclusive, and player-centric," Skerritt said, before adding, "I am therefore pleased to confirm that we have terminated the old embedded selection policy which secretly, but actively, victimised some players and banished them from selection consideration."
