World Cup 2019: Team India to use GPS performance tracking system

The technology will assist the fitness trainer to carefully manage players' workloads and injury rehabilitation programmes.

Hyderabad: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to take help of GPS performance tracking and analysis to make sure the Indian squad is in the peak of their physical condition during the time of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 starting on May 30 in England and Wales.

The Indian cricket board roped in UK-based sports tech company, STATSports, to carry out the task. The company also works for renowned EPL clubs Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Barcelona.

Cricketers will wear a baselayer vest which has high-resolution units fitted in a pocket between the shoulder blades. These units measure the physical metrics of each player including distance, speed, acceleration, deceleration, high-speed running, dynamic stress load.

The technology will assist the fitness trainer to carefully manage players' workloads and injury rehabilitation programmes.

STATSSports co-founder Sean O'Connor said the agreement is iconic for the company.

India's representative, Pankaj Wankhede, who worked closely on fetching the deal said, “International cricket has become a lot more physically demanding over the years due to light fixtures. I am happy to see Indian cricket team is ahead of the curve implementing the world’s best wearable device for performance monitoring."
