World Cup 2019: Hetmyer notches joint-fastest fifty, crosses 1000 ODI runs

Taunton: Windies batsman Shimron Hetmyer notched the record of joint-fastest fifty of 2019 World Cup when he smashed 50 off 25 balls against Bangladesh here at County Ground on Monday. His innings was comprised of four boundaries and three sixes.

However, Hetmyer was dismissed just after reaching the 50 runs mark. Mustafizur Rahman foxed him with a slower delivery.

The southpaw, in the meantime, crossed 1000 ODI runs and now holds the record for the third fastest fifty by a Windies batsman in the history of the quadrennial event.

Riding on Shai Hope's 96, Evin Lewis' 70 and Hetmyer's fifty Windies set mammoth 322 runs target for Bangladesh in a must-win game.

Earlier in the 2019 World Cup, Australia wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Carey slammed the fastest fifty against India while playing unbeaten 55 runs knock. This was also the quickest fifty by an Australian in the World Cup.

However, Carey failed to take Australia home as India defeated them by 36 runs.
