Chester-le-Street (England): West Indies skipper Jason Holder on Tuesday thrashed his side for their sloppy fielding after their 23-runs defeat by West Indies, here, at the Riverside Ground.

"We were probably, a bit slow off the blocks. We were sloppy on the field and gave away a few extra runs. In a format like this, these things matter. You've got to be better than that. I thought it was above-par," said Holder.

Holder also said that it was disappointing to come close but not get over the line.

"Yeah, it seems to be a trend here at this World Cup for us. We had (a) few close games. Just unable to get over the line."

Holder also said that they gave away 30-40 runs extra in the field. "Yeah, you can look back in hindsight and pinpoint a number of errors in this game. I don't think we fielded particularly well. Probably gave up 30 to 40 runs in the field. Yeah, when we were batting I felt we were always, in the game with a shout. We just lost wickets at, crucial stages. And you can also say that the runouts were probably gifted wickets. Probably what we didn't want at that stage."

"We were always backing ourselves to get across the line. We got into a really good position but then threw it away. That run out (Fabian Allen) was crucial, as was Pooran's wicket. Maybe we could have taken it deeper," he added.

West Indies will next take on Afghanistan on Thursday in their last league match. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, will face India in their last group stage game on Saturday.
