Hyderabad: Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison's decision to impose 'do not travel overseas' directive has put Australia cricketers' participation in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League in peril.
"The travel advice to every Australian is 'Do not travel abroad'," Morrison was quoted as saying in a press conference in Canberra.
IPL 2020 has been suspended till April 15. "Do not go overseas. That is very clear, that instruction. For those who are thinking of going overseas in the school holidays, don't. Don't go overseas," Morrison said.
Australian government banned overseas tours. "If you do travel, get professional security advice. Your travel insurance policy might be void. The Australian Government may not be able to help you," government's travel advisory stated.
Australian PM Scott Morrison. More importantly, it is an "indefinite ban". Making it worse case for them the COVID-19 pandemic has beefed up the misery of Aussie cricketers. Now Australians are no longer able to travel to Europe, with an initial European Union ban in place for 30 days.
COVID-19 pandemic wreaked havoc on sporting events across the globe, including the IPL which has been suspended till April 15. Earlier, Indian government suspended all visas, except for a few categories, till April 15 which forced BCCI to postpone the tournament.
