T20I records tumble as Afghanistan creates history by smashing highest ever total

Dehradun: Afganistan team creates history by smashing highest ever T20I score. The team was playing against Ireland in the second T20I here. In the process Afgan opener, Hazratullah Zazai played an extraordinary inning in which he scored 162 runs of just 62 balls.

Zazai in his carrier best show smashed 16 sixes and 11 fours. This is the highest number of sixes by any player in an International T20. He also becomes the second highest run scorer in T20I.

In the second T20I of the three-match series between Afganistan and Ireland, both the openers took the Irish bowlers to the cleaners. Usman Ghani who was playing an anchor role scored 73 runs off 48 balls with the help of 7 fours and 3 sixes. Afganistan in total smashed 22 sixes which also broke the record for highest number of sixes by a team in T20I.

Noticeably, the pair also broke the record of highest opening partnership in the shortest format of the game. Earlier this record was held by the Australian duo Darcy Short and Aaron Finch.Meanwhile, the match was a nightmare for Irish bowlers as no one could keep their economy below 10 expect Boyd Rankin who took the first wicket of Afgan's innings. Irland captain Paul Stirling bowled the worst over of the inning where he conceded 24 runs. Other than Rankin, Peter Chase and Joshua Little took one wicket each.
