New Delhi: A bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) SA Bobde, which also includes L Nageswara Rao, will resume hearing in the 'BCCI vs Cricket Association of Bihar' case in the Supreme Court on Wednesday.
The apex court is set to hear on Wednesday a BCCI plea to modify its constitution and enable the duo of Ganguly and Shah to stay on in their positions instead of going on a mandatory cooling-off period.
Earlier on April 21, BCCI had filed a petition in the Apex Court asking for an extension of Ganguly and Jay Shah's tenure till 2025 as BCCI president and secretary respectively.
Both Ganguly and Shah joined BCCI in October 2019. However, the duo had to leave the office within a year given the new cooling-off period that is mandated by the Lodha reforms.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, IPL spot-fixing case petitioner Aditya Verma announced that his lawyers "won't oppose" a cooling-off period waiver for Ganguly and Shah when the matter is heard in the Supreme Court.
Cricket Association of Bihar secretary Verma is the original petitioner in the 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal, which led to the apex court forming the Lodha Panel, which recommended sweeping constitutional reforms in the world's richest cricket board.
According to the BCCI's new constitution, a cooling-off period of three years is mandatory after serving for six years as an office-bearer in either a state association or the Board.
