Manchester: India took a 7-0 lead against Pakistan at the World Cup as the 1983 and 2011 World Cup champions, India, defeated Pakistan by 89 runs on Sunday here at the Old Trafford stadium. As the rain stopped play once again, the revised target for Pakistan was 302 in 40 overs. Pakistan managed to score 212 for 6.
As Pakistan begun their 337 runs chase Vijay Shankar provided India early breakthrough as he trapped Imam-ul-Haq lbw for 7 in the fifth over of Pakistan's chase. Later, Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam steadied Pakistan's chase adding 104 runs second wicket partnership.
Pakistan slumped to 127 for 5 from 117 for 2 as Kuldeep Yadav bamboozled Fakhar and Babar Pakistan fell in deep trouble. Their woe was amplified when Hardik Pandya picked up back to back wickets removing Hafeez and Malik in the 27th over.
In the first ball of the 35th over, Shankar got his second wicket as he rattled the stumps of Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed.
