Manpreet Gony retires from international cricket, to play in Global T20 Canada league

Mumbai: Former India speedster Manpreet Singh Gony has decided to hang his boot from all forms of cricket, ending his 12-year long career. The 35-year-old Punjab pacer was featured two ODIs for India in June 2008. The right arm pacer took 2 wickets in his ODI career.

Gony playing for Punjab since 2007 picked 196 wickets from 61 matches at 28.77. He secured 10 five-wicket hauls and twice took 10 wickets in a match. In his List A career of 11 years from February 2008 he secured 77 wickets in 55 matches with an average of 27.87.

In Indian Premier league, he represented Chennai Super Kings, Deccan Chargers, Kings XI Punjab and Gujarat Lions. In 80 T20 matches, he clinched 96 wickets at an average of 25.00Gony’s coach Sukhwinder Tinkoo on his retirement said, "He had the speed and accuracy and that helped him make his debut for Punjab against Andhra in 2007 and later saw him play for India and for various teams in IPL. He was one of the fastest and accurate bowlers for Punjab. If he had not faced injuries, he would have played in more matches and picked up more wickets."Gony is looking to play in Global T20 Canada league, alongside Yuvraj Singh who announced his retirement last week.Punjab skipper Mandeep Singh said, “Manpreet paji was the backbone of fast bowling for Punjab since his first-class debut for the team and I also got chance to see and play against him in IPL in 2010 and the following years…Young pacers also learnt a lot from him."
