Abu Dhabi: Royal Challengers Bangalore coach Simon Katich admits they were simply outplayed by Mumbai Indians in their IPL match in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.

Looking to take the top spot on the IPL table, the Challengers failed to contain the Indians after setting them a target of 165 for victory.

"They've got a powerful batting line up and you know with Mumbai you've got to bowl them out because it wasn't a huge score. But we also felt we could defend it if we got wickets at the right time and obviously tied things up in the middle taking pace off the ball. That wasn't to be. I think there was a period there, I think at three for 70-odd we looked like we were getting on top, but then Suryakumar (Yadav) played a magnificent inning and got the momentum back in their favour pretty quicky after they lost that third wicket and then it was difficult for us to get back into the game," Katich said.

Quinton de Kock and Ishan Kishan partnered well to give Mumbai a strong start, but Suryakumar Yadav was unstoppable, finishing with 79 not out as the Indians cruised to victory.

"Mumbai deserves the result," said Katich. "We didn't grab our chances after the third wicket fell, we leaked some runs in the next couple of overs and Mumbai got back in the game.I think Mumbai outplayed us when it mattered most," he said.
