Chennai: The pre-departure camp of Chennai Super Kings has come under scanner after 12 members of their staff have tested positive for coronavirus. The list included players and as well as coaching/support staff.

According to the rule, the player, who has tested positive, can return to training only after a 14-day quarantine period. After completing his quarantine period, the player will get tested again before being permitted to re-enter the bio-secure zone.

However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is insisting that there is no immediate threat to the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. IPL 2020 is scheduled to start from September 19.

“Adequate measures are in place to tackle the situation and there is no immediate threat to the tournament. But the announcement of fixtures has been delayed because of this development,” a top BCCI source was quoted as saying by a leading English newspaper.

The three-time IPL champion CSK were the only outfit to organise their own camp in India before their departure to the United Arab Emirates.

And it has been learned that the BCCI was not too happy with CSK's decision.

“Senior BCCI officials had cautioned the CSK management about the risks of holding such a camp in India,” a BCCI source added.

However, CSK management were hoping to get their players back in the grove before the start of the cash-rich league as their initial plan of reaching UAE by August 12 was denied by BCCI.

And they still insist that “all it needs is one asymptomatic carrier and this (situation) could have happened to any team”.
