Ind vs Pak, 1992 WC: The day when Tendulkar announced his arrival in style

19-year-old Tendulkar was named Man of the match for his unbeaten half-century.

Hyderabad: Ever since the ICC World Cup 2019 schedule was announced, the cricketing world was waiting for just one match; India vs Pakistan.

An India-Pakistan match is still one of the most sought-after games in tournaments across the globe and it took 17 years of the world cup cricket (From 1975 to 1992), before the first match was played between the neighbouring countries.

India and Pakistan took on each other for the first time in World Cup on March 4, 1992, in the Benson Hedges World Cup and the Men in Blue went onto beat Pakistan by 43 runs at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

The two most memorable incidents from the match which is still etched in fans' mind are Javed Miandad’s monkey-jumping act of mocking Kiran More behind the wickets and 19-year-old Sachin Tendulkar announcing his arrival at the cricket’s grandest stage.

• After opting to bat first, India rode on Tendulkar's unbeaten 54 off 62 balls to post 216/7. Ajay Jadeja (46), Kapil Dev (35) and skipper Mohammad Azharuddin (32) also chipped in to put India in strong position.

On the other hand, Mushtaq Ahmed took three wickets, while seamer Aaqib Javed picked up two wickets for Pakistan.

Later, Indian bowlers also came to the party as Kapil Dev, Manoj Prabhakar and Javagal Srinath bagged two wickets each, while Tendulkar and Venkatapathy Raju picked one wicket each to bowl out Pakistan for paltry 173.

• Also, the incident which raised some eyebrows in the game was when at the end of the 25th over of Pakistan innings, oncrease batsman Miandad jumped like a monkey to mock More who was constantly appealing behind the wickets.

Interestingly, More was trying to get into Miandad's head as he was constantly talking behind the stumps.

Miandad lost his cool and began to jump like a monkey on the field with the intention to mock More, but that's not how the crowd saw it.

Meanwhile, India clinched their first-ever World Cup game against Pakistan by 43 runs and Tendulkar was named Man of the match.

Although Pakistan lost to India in the league phase, led by Inspirational Imran Khan they went on to win the world cup that year. This was the only time when they have won the world cup, but they are still winless against India in the world cup matches.
