Hyderabad: Ever since the ICC World Cup 2019 schedule was announced, the cricketing world was waiting for just one match; India vs Pakistan.
An India-Pakistan match is still one of the most sought-after games in tournaments across the globe and it took 17 years of the world cup cricket (From 1975 to 1992), before the first match was played between the neighbouring countries.
India and Pakistan took on each other for the first time in World Cup on March 4, 1992, in the Benson Hedges World Cup and the Men in Blue went onto beat Pakistan by 43 runs at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
The two most memorable incidents from the match which is still etched in fans' mind are Javed Miandad’s monkey-jumping act of mocking Kiran More behind the wickets and 19-year-old Sachin Tendulkar announcing his arrival at the cricket’s grandest stage.
- After opting to bat first, India rode on Tendulkar's unbeaten 54 off 62 balls to post 216/7. Ajay Jadeja (46), Kapil Dev (35) and skipper Mohammad Azharuddin (32) also chipped in to put India in strong position.
On the other hand, Mushtaq Ahmed took three wickets, while seamer Aaqib Javed picked up two wickets for Pakistan.
