Kolkatta: Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Kolkatta Knight Riders in a run-fest to hand host their fourth consecutive loss of the season. Virat Kohli, who scored his fifth IPL hundred, was named man of the match.
The match went down to the wire as KKR's middle order gave a strong fight back while chasing a mammoth total of 213. Nitish Rana and Andre Russell scored the fifties for KKR but it was all in vain as the team fell short by 10 runs.
Many records tumbled in the match where both teams scored over 200. So, let's have a look at some of the important stats from the game.
West Indies allrounder Andre Russell has proved himself as a match winner for KKR this season. While doing so he has hit 39 sixes which is fourth highest in any season by a player. The list is topped by his country mate Chris Gayle who has smashed 59 sixes in 2012 edition of IPL.
- Lowest batting strike-rate by Robin Uthappa
The thing that might have cost KKR the match was Robin Uthappa's slow innings where he scored runs at the strike rate of 45 which was fifth lowest strike rate by a batsman after playing 20 balls in an innings.
- Most IPL defeats by a player
It was clearly not Robin Uthappa's day as in the match against RCB he also became the player with the most number of defeats in IPL. The right-hand batsman has been on the losing 89 occasions in IPL. Earlier the list was topped by RCB skipper Kohli.
- Kolkata Knight Riders and Eden Gardens
KKR has now lost their last three matches at their home ground Eden Gardens. This is the first time KKR lost three successive matches in Kolkata. KKR has also lost their last four IPL matches on the trot, which has made their equation to qualify even more difficult.
