Perth: In their second outing in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup, India women set 143 runs target for Bangladesh women on Monday here at West Australian Cricket Association stadium.

After being asked to bat first, India lost make-shift opener, Taniya Bhatia, on the very onset of the game for two runs. Being down to 16 for 1, India soon shifted the gear to change the course of the game. Taniya opened the Indian innings after Smiriti Mandhana was ruled out of the game due viral fever.

Bangladesh players celebrate after effecting a dismissal.

16-year-old batting prodigy Shafali Verma swung her arms all around the park to accumulate some quick for Women in Blue. Shafali smashed four towering sixes and two boundaries during her short stay at the crease. Playing 17 balls she amassed 39 runs.

When she was dismissed by Panna Ghosh India were well placed at 53 for 2 in 5.3 overs.

However, the Indian innings, which at a time looking all set for a big total, slowed down as top-order batter Jemimah Rodrigues and captain Harmanpreet Kaur fell cheaply.

Deepti Sharma and Bangladesh wicket-keeper Nigar Sultana fell down

While Jemimah consumed 37 balls to score 34 runs before being run out, Harmanpreet's stay at the crease was cut short by Panna Ghosh in the 10th over.

Though India tried to salvage their innings, Bangladesh bowlers, ably supported by fielders, kept Indian batters in check throughout the game. At the same time, Deepti Sharma's dramatic run out also cost India heavily.

However, a late cameo from Veda Krishnamurthy, who played unbeaten 20 runs innings, helped India to post 142 for 6 on the board in 20 overs.

For Bangladesh captain Salma Khatun and Panna Ghosh scalped two wickets each. While Salma dismissed Richa Ghosh, who scored 14 runs off 14 balls, and Taniya Bhatia, Panna got the wickets of Shafali and Harmanpreet.

Sahafli Verma has played a quickfire knock in Perth.

Earlier, Bangladesh won the toss and opted to field first.

India women have made one change to their line-up as opener Smriti Mandhana was ruled out due to viral fever and Richa Ghosh has replaced her in the playing XI.

India, on Friday, got off to a superb start to their 2020 Women's T20 World Cup campaign as they defeated defending champions Australia by 17 runs in a thrilling contest.
