Former England skipper Bob Willis dies aged 70

London: Former England skipper Bob Willis has died aged 70 after a short illness.

The fast bowler appeared in 90 Tests and 64 one-day internationals for England since his debut in 1971 and went on to play till 1984.

With 325 Test wickets, Willis currently stands at fourth on the all-time list of England wicket-takers behind James Anderson, Sir Ian Botham and Stuart Broad.

Willis starred for England in the 1981 Ashes Series in which he claimed 43. His eight for 43 in the third match of that particular series fired the Englishmen to a remarkable win at Headingley.

He spent his later years as an ever-present on Sky Sports' cricket coverage, becoming well-known for his strong opinions and passion for the state of the English game.

Last year, Willis was named as a member of England greatest Test XI by the ECB, as part of their celebrations for the country's 1000th match.
