Kolkatta: Sunrisers Hyderabad's opener David Warner, who made a comeback in the side after a year ban, has smashed a quickfire fifty to clinch record of batsman with the most number of the half-centuries in the history of Indian Premier League.

The former Hyderabad skipper opened the batting for SRH in its first game of the season and smashed 86 off 53 balls. The southpaw while batting at a strike rate of 160 slammed three sixes and nine boundaries.

Interestingly, last year on the same date, the ball tampering scandal took place in the Test match between South Africa and Australia at Cape Town. Warner and former Aussie captain Steve Smith were banned from cricket for one year which also includes the last season of IPL.

Warner made his IPL comeback memorable by helping his team reach a competitive total. The talisman batsman with Jonny Bairstow added a 118-run opening stand.

In 2017, Warner had won the orange cup by scoring 641 runs in 14 matches and he would definitely like to repeat the heroics.
