Dublin: West Indies openers John Campbell and Shai Hope scripted history against Ireland as the duo smashed the record of highest ever opening stand in One-Day-International cricket on Sunday.
The duo shared a breathtaking 365 runs partnership for the opening wicket, and in the process, they broke the previous record held by Pakistani pair of Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq who scored 304 runs in 2018 against Zimbabwe.
The stand between Campbell and Hope is also the second highest partnership in ODIs for any wicket. The duo missed the record of highest ever partnership in any wicket by 7 runs. The record of highest ever ODI partnership is held by their teammates Chirs Gayle and Marlon Samuels who built 372 runs 2nd wicket partnership against Zimbabwe in the 2015 World Cup.
Campbell and Hope, however, broke the record of Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid who shared 331 runs against New Zealand way back in 1999. It also the first time in the limited overs cricket that two batsmen from the same team has scored more than 170 runs.
