Jaipur: Former India captain and current Hyderabad Cricket Association President Mohammad Azharuddin met with a deadly accident in Soorwal, Rajasthan.

Azhar was travelling with three members of his family to Ranthambore National Park. The former India batsman and his family, however, escaped unhurt and returned to the hotel.

As per sources, Azhar is in Rajasthan with his family to celebrate the new year.

The Hyderabadi was elected as HCA president in September 2019. He won decisive 147 votes while his nearest opponent Prakash Chand Jain won only 73 votes.

He was recently in Ahmedabad to attend the Annual General Meeting of BCCI.

Azhar also played a match at the newly innovated Motera stadium that featured Board Secretary XI and Board President XI which the former won.

The former Indian skipper, who led India in three successive World Cups, the most by any Indian captain ever in ODI cricket, was banned for his alleged involvement in match-fixing scandal on December 5, 2000.

However, in 2012 the ban was lifted due to lack of evidence.
