Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in December where the decision to float a tender for the ninth IPL team can be taken. A decision on the date of AGM is expected to be taken post-Diwali, a national daily reported.

As per media reports, BCCI is seriously considering the idea of floating a tender for two franchises, not one, which was earlier known. If BCCI AGM ratifies the move, a mega full-scale auction would be organised early next year, so that all franchisees get equal chances to pick their players.

At the same time, if tender for two franchises gets underway, the IPL may see a change in the format.

Meanwhile, after a successful IPL in the UAE, the BCCI is now in the process of rolling out plans for the domestic competitions, which were cut short in the face of COVID-19 pandemic early 2020.
