Hyderabad: Afghanistan cricket have become the talk of the town even after losing first two matches in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, as the team's wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Shahzad who was ruled out of the tournament for a knee injury, has threatened to quit cricket.

Opening batsman Shahzad was suffering from a knee injury and was ruled out of the marquee event after playing first two matches but the 32-year-old refused the claims that he was unfit and said he had no idea why he was ruled out. Shahzad was replaced by Ikram Ali Khil.

The right-hand batsman is the highest run scorer for Afghanistan in One Day International cricket.

"I was removed from the 2015 World Cup and now this one as well. I am going to consult with friends and family. My heart isn't in cricket anymore," said Shahzad.

On the other hand ACB chief executive, Asadullah Khan was adamant that there had been no foul play in dropping the wicketkeeper-batsman.

"It's absolutely wrong to say that he was unfairly dropped, We have given a medical report to the ICC to prove that he is unfit, and after thorough deliberation they allowed us to replace him. He is our main batsman, who can make a big difference with the bat, and it was a really difficult decision to drop one of our key players," Khan said.

The right-hand batsman is the highest run scorer for Afghanistan in One Day International cricket. He has played 84 games amassed 2727 runs with a decent average of 33.66.
