17-year-old Riyan Parag becomes youngest batsman to score IPL fifty

Riyan's fifty of 49 balls helped Rajasthan reach a respectable total of 115.

Delhi: Rajasthan Royals all-rounder Riyan Parag has become the youngest batsman to score fifty in the Indian Premier League. The 17-year-old broke the record of his teammate Sanju Samson who achieved this record in 2013 at the age of 18.

Riyan Parag achieved the feat when he was 17 years and 175 days old while Samson and Delhi Capitals opener Prithvi Shaw were 18 years 169 days old at the time of achieving the record.

Riyan's 50 off 49 balls helped Rajasthan reach a total of 115 from 57/5. The right-hand batsman smashed two sixes and four boundaries during his innings.

Riyan has played seven matches in IPL so far and has scored 186 runs in five innings at an average of 32. While bowling right-arm leg break he has also clinched two wickets.

At 16, Riyan Parag has a World Cup in his kitty, having played a significant role in India's successful Under-19 triumph in the 2018 World Cup.
