Australia overtake India to regain No.1 spot in ICC Test Team rankings

The 2023 World Test Champions Australia have regained the top spot of the ICC Men's Test Team ranking after India level the series with the hosts, South Africa on Thursday.

Hyderabad: The mighty Australian side have replaced India from the top of the ICC Test Team rankings after Men in Blue won the second Test against South Africa to level the series by 1-1 on Thursday.

Australia are now leading the table with 118 points, while India (117) and England (115) are not far away from the Pat Cummins led side. The Kangaroos have last held the spot briefly following their World Test Championship Final victory.

Before this update, India and Australia were tied on rating with 118 each. However, more points in India's bag meant they had their grip around the top spot as they reigned supreme across formats in Men's Team Rankings.

The ICC World Test Championship 2023 winner Australia have dominated the three match series against Pakistan, winning first two tests of the three match series quite comprehensively.

However, India failed to register their first series win in the rainbow nation while Australia clinching first two of as many matches against Pakistan which has cost Men in Blue their no. 1 spot in the Test rankings.

Australia may to face strong competition from England as well as the Ben Stokes-led side when they will tour to India for the five Test match series while Australia, on the other hand, are scheduled to square off against West Indies for the two match test series at home turf, starting from January 17.

The last year was unforgettable for the Pat Cummins-led side as they became the ICC World Test Champions for the first time, then retained the Ashes trophy and clinched the converted ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 for the record sixth time in November.
