Colombo (Sri Lanka):India, who have already made, the final beating Pakistan and Sri Lanka, lost to Bangladesh in their last Super 4 game of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 by six runs.
India restricted Bangladesh to 265/8 after skipper Rohit Sharma put the Opposition into bat at the R Premadasa Stadium here on Friday. A stroke-filled hundred by Shubman Gill, has kept the hosts in the chase after top order failure. But in the end India fell short by six runs in the dead rubber as Bangladesh were already eliminated out of the tournament.

India were bundled out for 259 as Bangladesh scripted a memorable victory. Shubman Gill's blazing hundred and late hitting by Axar Patel and Shardul Thakur went in vain. The final will be played on Sunday.

India lost Shardul Thakur in the penultimate over. Axar Patel made a valiant 42. The Gujarat batter Axar was caught in the deep by Tanzid Hasan as pacer Mustifizur Rahman applied all his experience of bowling in the death overs to grab two quick wickets in the 49th over.

Axar and Shardul, who are hitting the loose balls, have kept India in the chase. Axar Patel smashed a consecutive four and a six in the 48th over off Mahedi Hasan as the Men in Blue collected 14 runs in it. The equation was brought down to 17 off 12 balls.
The duo has so far added runs for the eight-wicket.

It was Mahedi Hasan who sent back Shubman Gill. The Punjab batter made a fine 121 as he single-handedly kept India into the chase, despite lack of partners. Gill's lofted shot was taken by Hridoy wide of long-off. The onus is now on Axar Patel and all-rounder Shardul Thakur to take the side home.

He single-handedly has kept India in the contention as the Rohit Sharma-led team is nearing the target. Gill, who is enormously talented, has hammered eight boundaries and four sixes so far. Gill is also the highest run-scorer of the ongoing Asia Cup.

This time the Bangladesh skipper broke the stand between Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav (26) after he cleaned up the latter with a full tossed up delivery. Surya tries to play a sweep shot, but missed it and the ball clips the off-stump. Surya hit three boundaries in his short stay at the wicket.
