Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 match: Bowlers shine as India defeat Sri Lanka by 41 runs; storm into final

India trounced Sri Lanka in their second Super 4 game of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Colombo: A comprehensive bowling performance helped India beat co-hosts Sri Lanka by 41 runs in their Super 4 Asia Cup 2023 game at the R Premdasa Stadium here on Tuesday. It was India's second successive win after beating arch-rivals Pakistan by 228 runs on Monday night at the same venue. India ended Sri Lanka's 13-match winning streak.

Chinaman Kuldeep Yadav dismissed last man Matheesha Pathirana (0) as India bundled out Sri Lanka for 172 in a low-scoring thriller. Kuldeep Yadav finished with fine figures of 4/43 as India recorded a 41-run win and laid one foot in the summit clash to be played on Sunday. Kuldeep Yadav also took his 150th ODI wicket.

Sri Lanka lost their eighth and ninth wicket as India closed in on an outright victory.

Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja provided India with a much-needed breakthrough after he dismissed Dhananjaya de Silva, who was caught by Shubman Gill. Sri Lanka was marching ahead to the target, when Jadeja, grabbed his second wicket of the match, bringing cheers to Indian fans. He has allowed India to make a comeback in the game.

Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja joined the party and he removed rival skipper Dasun Shanaka (9), who edged to skipper Rohit Sharma at the first slip. Rohit, who completed 10,000 ODI runs, took a diving catch.

Kuldeep Yadav then gave double blows to Sri Lanka, removing Sadeera Samarawickrama (17), who was stumped by KL Rahul and then got the better of Charith Asalanka (22), who edged to KL Rahul. Having lost half their side, it is an uphill task for Sri Lanka's lower middle order.

Sadeera Samarawickrama and Charith Asalanka have rallied the Sri Lankan innings after the Indian pace duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj ran through their top order. The duo have so far added 43 runs for the unbroken fourth wicket stand.

Mohammed Siraj also joined the party and got the wicket of Dimuth Karunaratne in the 8th over. Karunaratne's edge flew to the slip cordon and he was caught by Shubman Gill. Sri Lanka in pursuit of 214 was in a spot of 26/3

Jasprit Bumrah once again showed his mettle as he struck for the second time, removing Kusal Mendis (15), who was caught by substitute Suryakumar Yadav at covers.

Pacer Jasprit Bumrah struck in his second over as he sent back Sri Lankan opener Pathum Nissanka (6), who was caught by KL Rahul. Bumrah bowled a wicket-maiden. Kusal Mendis joined opener Dimuth Karunaratane, even as Mohammed Siraj continued from the other end.
