Syed Modi International: Sourabh Verma settles for silver after losing final

Lucknow: Indian shuttler Sourabh Verma's golden run came to an end as he bagged silver medal after losing the final of Syed Modi International Badminton Championship here at Babu Banarasi Das Indoor Stadium on Sunday.

The 26-year-old, who won two BWF Super 100 titles in Hyderabad and Vietnam this year, went down 15-21, 17-21 against world no. 22 Tzu Wei in a 48-minute summit clash to miss out on his maiden Super 300 crown. The match lasted for 48 minutes.

Sourabh came into the summit clash with a 1-1 head-to-head record, having lost narrowly to Tzu Wei at the Tong Yun Kai Cup in March this year.

Earlier on Saturday, Verma overpowered South Korea's Heo Kwang Hee to register a 21-17, 16-21, 21-18 win in the semi-final match.Rituparna Das was knocked out of the tournament after she faced a 24-22, 21-15 defeat at the hands of Phittayaporn Chaiwan.
