Aniston, Carell preview their characters on The Morning Show

The Morning Show, a series, launching next month on Apple's new streaming service, focuses on how the Me Too movement has upended newsrooms. Jennifer Aniston, Steve Carell and Reese Witherspoon who headline the show opens up on their character in The Morning Show which will be one of the series launching with Apple TV+ next month.

Los Angeles: Jennifer Aniston says her news anchor character on The Morning Show is "at the top of what she does."

The series, launching next month on Apple's new streaming service, focuses on how the Me Too movement has upended newsrooms. Steve Carell plays Aniston's co-anchor, forced out over sexual misconduct allegations. Reese Witherspoon plays a younger TV journalist from West Virginia who shakes up the show with a candid, less polished approach.

"She also knows how to play the game and the politically correct thing to do and when to turn the eye. And Bradley comes in sort of shooting by the hip and she's a truth teller and it's kind of jarring and whoa, that's not how it's done. But she's of the generation that's saying I think the audience wants to hear something different. The audience wants to be refreshed and hear more of the truth and have more transparency in the news," Aniston said.

"But it's great to see that like actual respect that Alex has for her and then also frustration at the same time. Because she is telling the truth and she is right and it makes Alex look at herself and what she is, how she's let her own self down."

Witherspoon adds: "I mean you need people who push us beyond the status quo. You know, human nature wants to settle back into status quo and we need agitators to help us change and evolve."

Carell calls his character, who appears to be modeled at least loosely on Matt Lauer, "a narcissist, an egomaniac."
