Why the word 'Bollywood' irks Vinay Pathak?

Vinay Pathak expresses his concern over the Hindi filmdom – one of the massive film industries in the world being known as Bollywood. The actor feels the coinage holds no relevance as Hollywood has in the West.

Kolkata: Vinay Pathak, who is currently shooting for an upcoming Bengali suspense thriller 'Mitin Mashi' in the city has problem with the word Bollywood for it lacks originality and being poor derivation of Hollywood.

In an exclusive chitchat with ETV Bharat, Vinay spoke about his Bengali debut with dear friend Arindam Sil's directorial. The actor also shared his observations about the cultural and professional differences between the Hindi and Bengali film industry.

"Mishti", is how he summed up his experience of working in 'Mitin Mashi' in which he plays a Parsi businessman who is integral part of the story line.

On hearing words Bollywood and Tollywood brought strain on his face as he feels the coinage is bastardized version of Hollywood and he has problem with the connotation that comes along.

The actor also spoke about camaraderie he shares with co-star Koel Mallick and why the Hindi speaking actors hesitate to attempt and explore regional cinema.
