Hyderabad: Bollywood diva Kareena Kapoor Khan lives life queen size but there were also days when 'everything was very limited' for her and elder sister Karisma Kapoor as their mother Babita Kapoor had to raise them single-handedly. Kareena, who is among the highest-paid leading ladies in Bollywood has shared the real side of her past which is very unlikely to be of a member of Kapoor clan, the first family of Indian cinema.
In a throwback interview, Kareena was asked if, like her cousin Ranbir Kapoor, she also believes she was born into privilege, to which she replied that they were 'left alone to fend' for themselves and everything was very limited for her and Karisma while growing up.
"We weren’t brought up in luxury, as people think about the Kapoor clan. My mom (Babita) and sister (Karisma) really struggled to give me a better life. Especially my mom, because she was a single parent. Everything was very limited for us," Kareena said.

Kareena also said it is because of the upbringing of her mother and the experiences that she and Karisma have had in life that made them 'strong and fragile at the same time.'
"Lolo(Karisma) went to college in local trains, but I escaped that because I didn’t go to college here. But I took the school bus like everyone else. We had one car and didn’t have enough money for a driver. It’s only because mom brought us up like this that we value everything we have today. The bad days we have seen have made us very strong and fragile at the same time. And the experiences have made me a very intense person," said Kareena.
For unversed, Karisma and Kareena are daughters of Randhir Kapoor and Babita Kapoor who had a love marriage in 1971 but went their separate ways in 1988. The hardship that Kareena spoke about is the period when Babita decided to move out and raise her daughters on her own. At the time when Babita and Randhir amicably parted ways, Karisma was all of 14 while Kareena was hardly 8.

Though Randhir and Babita got separated from each other, never filed for divorce. When asked about the reason that led to their split, Randhir had once revealed that their extremely different lifestyles made them drift apart. "She found that I was a terrible man who drank a lot and came home late, which was something she didn't like. And I didn't want to live the way she wanted, and she couldn't accept me as I am, though it was a love marriage. So it's okay. We had two lovely children to look after. She brought them up in the best way and they have excelled in their career. What else I could have asked for as a father?" Randhir Kapoor said in an interview.
