Superstar Aamir Khan and producer-director Kiran Rao on Saturday announced their decision to get divorced after 15 years of marriage. They are now headed to splitsville but there were times when Aamir had said that he 'can't imagine life without' Kiran.

Hyderabad: Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan and his filmmaker wife Kiran Rao have announced their divorce in a statement issued to the press on Saturday. The actor who will be living separately and remain a devoted parent to his son Azad had once said that he feels very blessed and grateful for having Kiran in his life.

Khan, 56, and Rao, 47, first met on the sets of the actor's 2001 blockbuster movie Lagaan and got married in December 2005. The couple moved in together and shared life for a year and a half before tying the knot in 2005. They welcomed their son Azad Rao Khan in December 2011.

The happier times they spent together will now remain cherished memories for both of them as they go their separate ways after 15 years of togetherness. But, there were times when Mr. Perfectionist had confessed his love and admiration for Kiran who would make him happy even on the gloomiest days.

In a throwback interview with a webloid, Aamir had spoken at length about how he met Kiran and later fell in love with her. Confessing his feelings for Kiran, the PK star had said, "I can never imagine my life without Kiran as my partner. I feel very blessed and I feel very grateful for it."

Well, things are not the same now, but as they have said in their joint statement, "you will see this divorce not as an end, but as the start of a new journey," for Aamir and Kiran.

Khan, the star of acclaimed films such as Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Sarfarosh, 3 Idiots, Talaash and Dangal, was previously married to Reena Dutta. They have two children -- son Junaid Khan and daughter Ira Khan.

On the work front, Khan will be next seen in Laal Singh Chadha, an official Hindi remake of Tom Hanks' acclaimed movie Forrest Gump. The film is being produced by Rao, who has also backed several others films, including Dangal and Secret Superstar.
