Hyderabad: South superstar Vijay Sethupathi, whose fandom is gradually crossing the borders and blurring language barriers, essayed the role of a deadly villain in recently released superhit film Master. The actor said director Lokesh Kanagraj and he were mindful of not glorifying his evil act.

In Master, Vijay plays Bhavani who uses loopholes in law in his favour and makes minors commit heinous crimes. Talking to a tabloid, Vijay has revealed that pulling off the dark character was not easy for him. Sharing his experience of turning baddie onscreen, Vijay said, "My director Lokesh Kanagraj and I had to be very careful about not making my character Bhavani’s evil look attractive. I believe it is cinema’s responsibility to not glorify evil."

The actor also said that he had to tap into the dark side of his personality to bring Bhavani alive onscreen. "Whether it is good or evil, it is all within all of us. It’s up to us to tap which side of our personality we want to show. I can tell you with confidence that I am not a basically good guy. But I want to be a good guy," the '96 actor further added.

Sethupathi also said that a particular scene in the film where he engages in brutality against children did bothered him a lot. The tabloid further quoted Vijay as saying, "The idea of killing two kids in Master really worried me. I didn’t want to make the violence anything but disturbing for the audience. The director and I had several discussions on this. We decided not to show the actual killings of the children. We wanted to show how evil the man is."

Vjay is known for his acting chops, and he garnered acclaim beyond his home turf with the OTT-released film Super Deluxe last year. He has started the year with a bang, announcing his Bollywood debut. The actor will star in Santosh Sivan's Mumbaikar, a Hindi remake of the 2017 Tamil hit, Maanagaram.
