Mumbai: Vijay Deverakonda took to social media to slam the website that had apparently intended to tarnish his image.

The Arjun Reddy star who is known for his out-of-the-box approach to things on and off-screen is back in headlines for a tangible issue that most public personalities face under constant scrutiny.

On Monday, Vijay took to Twitter to school the website over a fabricated story that was published on May 1. "When someone who is suppose to be a guardian of truth lies to you or betrays your trust, intentionally - the society is in danger," wrote the Dear Comrade star.

"This video is my responsibility to my people," reads the statement which was accompanied by a YouTube link where Vijay has spoken about the whole issue at length.

The actor further wrote: "Meanwhile, you are welcome to continue trying to end my career, destroy my image, write nonsense about me."

Vijay's tweet has elicited a massive response from the Telugu film industry. From Tollywood megastar Chiranjeevi to Baahubali star Rana Daggubati to Mahesh Babu, all have stood in solidarity with the Geetha Govindam actor in his urge to curb the yellow press.

The actor expressed his gratitude to the support that he is receiving from his peers and fans on social media.

Chiranjeevi took to Twitter and extended his support to the young actor and asked him to not let anything deter his spirit to help the needy.

Rana Daggubati also lauded Deverakonda for speaking up and assured him that he has got him covered.

Mahesh Babu too weighed in his might in eradicating the spread of fake news and "call upon the industry to act upon these fake websites," to safeguard the "beautiful industry of Telugu cinema."

Meanwhile, Deverakonda has raised over Rs 50 lakh through his Middle Class Fund and says he has "reset" the goal of his charity, what with such generous donation coming in from fans. While he had earlier planned to help 2000 families, Vijay now hopes to help over 4000 families.
