Sushmita Sen exposes Bollywood, calls it 'business with humungous egos'

After speaking up on favouritism and nepotism in Bollywood, Sushmita Sen has yet again underlined the deep-seated malpractices in the film industry. Sen, who is known for speaking her mind, has exposed the very nature of Bollywood by calling it 'business with humungous egos.'

Mumbai: Sushmita Sen has shed insight into the lesser-known side of how Bollywood functions. The actor, who is basking in the success of her comeback web series Aarya, has said that the Hindi film industry is a place filled with inflated egos and when one turns down an offer, it is seen as a problem.

The 44-year-old star, who has dictated life with her own terms, in a recent interview candidly spoke about how she declined quite a few offers that came her way before Aarya. The actor also said that “too many no’s is like alienating people”, and might leave one with fewer or no options.

“We’re in a business with humungous egos and that’s not a secret. Each time you say no then that’s a problem, you’re a problem, it might mean you don’t want to work,” the Dastak actor told a leading daily.

She also shared that for her "being honest and responsible" about the work she takes up is always on top priority. Thus she feels responsible for the outcome and reception of the projects that she is attached to.

"So those offers that came to me sometimes weren’t good enough, sometime it would be like we’re doing you a favour by keeping you in the industry. That doesn’t work with me,” said Sen.

While talking about the “insiders and outsiders” debate that rekindled after the demise of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, Sushmita had earlier said that 'it isn’t new," but she feels that there should be a “fair game for everyone”.

"There has been a discussion about it (nepotism) all over the media and everywhere at this moment. (But) We all have been enduring it, it is not new. Is this something that we have just realised?

The actor opined that making debate around nepotism trend on social media won't help much and everyone is equally responsible to bring about the change.

"If it needs to change, then all of us need to take responsibility, not one person," said Sushmita, who will soon be coming back with the second season of Aarya.
