Mumbai: Actor Shabana Azmi, who was injured in a road accident on Saturday, is stable and under medical observation.
"Veteran actor Shabana Azmi has been admitted at Kokilaben Ambani hospital. She is stable and under observation," Dr Santosh Shetty, Executive Director and CEO of the hospital said in statement
The actor met with a road accident on Mumbai-Pune expressway on Saturday afternoon and was shifted to Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai from MGM hospital where she was initially admitted.
According to doctors, she has suffered a head injury and there is slight damage to backbone.
The road accident occurred in the afternoon near Khalapur toll plaza when the car in which the 69-year-old was travelling rammed into a speeding truck.
As per doctors, Shabana has suffered a head injury. There is also slight damage to her backbone.
According to news reports, her husband and lyricist Javed Akhtar who was travelling with her escaped with a minor injury.
The Raigad Police have issued an official statement which read: "Shabana Azmi and her driver was injured in an accident near Khalapur on Pune-Mumbai Expressway. While they were driving from Pune to Mumbai their vehicle hit by a truck on the expressway."

"Javed Akhtar was also present in the car who is safe. Both the injured have been shifted to MGM Hospital," police said in the statement.
The actor and her husband Javed were heading to Mumbai from Pune when the accident occurred at around 3:30 pm. The actor and her family celebrated her husband's 75th birthday on Friday.
The celebration was attended by scores of popular faces from Bollywood and the business world.
