Rumi Jaffrey reveals Sushant Singh Rajput got admitted multiple times for depression

Writer-director Rumi Jaffrey, who was a close friend of Sushant Singh Rajput, has revealed that he got to know about late actor's depression in November last year. Rumi also said that Sushant was admitted to a super speciality hospital multiple times where he was medically treated for clinical depression.

Mumbai: Filmmaker Rumi Jaffrey has revealed that he came to know about late actor Sushant Singh Rajput's battle with depression in November 2019. He also said that Sushant got admitted to Hinduja hospital in the city multiple times for clinical depression.

According to a webloid report, Rumi was informed by Sushant's condition by Rhea Chakraborty, who recently confirmed her relationship status with the late actor while demanding a CBI inquiry in his death.

"It happened in November 2019. I’m actually very bad with dates. But thanks to the mobile phone I remember it was November. Prior to that, Rhea Chakraborty had called to say Sushant was in a depression. I didn’t even know what it meant. But in November, I visited Sushant . He met me with the same warmth as he always did. He hugged me. He then told me that he was fighting off depression and that he didn’t know what to do about it. I was taken aback. ‘Arrey Sushant , tu toh star hai. Depression kyun?’ I just couldn’t understand what he could be depressed about," the webloid quoted Rumi as saying.

Rumi also said that he did not intervene much as he was not willing to cross the line. The filmmaker, however, said that he kept a close watch on Sushant's health after he confided in him.

"Ek toh who mujhse umar mein bahut chhota tha. Doosri baat , he was a star. We all know when to stop before crossing the line with them. But I kept a close watch on Sushant’s health after he confided in me. He got admitted in Hinduja Hospital several times for depression. But the media was told he went in for various ailments like dengue, etc. But the fact is Sushant was being medically treated for clinical depression," Rumi concluded.

Rumi was all set to direct Sushant and Rhea in his next which was a romantic film scheduled to roll from the month of May in London.
