Rekha, Sridevi to be bestowed with ANR National Award

Telugu film actor Nagarjuna announced ANR National Award for veteran actor Rekha and late screen diva Sridevi for 2018 and 2019.

Hyderabad: The ANR Award was instituted by the Akkineni International Foundation to honour Dr Akkineni Nageshwar Rao's efforts to honour cinema.

Rekha and Sridevi, two of the greatest artists Indian cinema has ever produced, will be bestowed with the honour for the years 2018 and 2019.

ANR National Award is given annually to recognize eminent film and media professionals for their lifetime achievements and contributions to Indian Cinema.

The inauguratory award was first given to Hindi cinema's charming actor Dev Anand.

To receive the posthumous honour, Sridevi's filmmaker husband Boney Kapoor will mark his presence at the ceremony. Telugu film industry's megastar Chiranjeevi will be giving away the awards at the event hosted by the Akkineni International Foundation at Annapurna Studios in Hyderabad.

Rekha, who too will be sharing the honour with Sridevi, will also be attending the third convocation of Annapurna College of Film and Media (ACFM) as chief guest.

Both Rekha and Sridevi had paved their way in Hindi cinema via South industry.

Indian screen lost its first ever female superstar Sridevi on February 24, 2018, as he accidentally drowned in a bathtub at a Dubai hotel.

The timeless beauty of Indian Cinema, Rekha, 65, started her career as a child artist and has acted in more than 180 films since. Almost all her movies offered something unique to the audience and also left a deep impact.

Her remarkable work includes movies like Umrao Jaan, Kalyug, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, Khubsoorat and Silsila which have cemented her place as one of the most respectable faces in Bollywood.
