Rashmika defends steamy lip-lock with Vijay in 'Dear Comrade'

Rashmika Mandanna was recently trolled for the kissing scene from her upcoming flick 'Dear Comrade' in which she shares screen space with her 'Geetha-Govindam' co-star Vijay Deverakonda. After much cacophony on social media, the actress has opened up about the ongoing controversy.

Hyderabad: The teaser of upcoming Telugu film 'Dear Comrade' has garnered criticism over a steamy lip-lock shared by the leading pair, Rashmika Mandanna and Vijay Deverakonda. The netizens are apparently fuming over the kissing scene and took no time to slam Rashmika and label Vijay as "Imraan Hashmi of Tollywood". Post much chatter on the social media, the actress has finally broke her silence about the latest controversy.

In the one minute seven seconds teaser, the makers have tried not to reveal much about the plot but have given out how intense the the film is going to be. The teaser which dropped on March 17, is fused with vigorous violence and unbridled passion. The video which opens with a fight in a college ends with a passionate kiss between rain-drenched Rashmika and Vijay.

The actress who got mercilessly trolled by the keyboard warriors has finally opened up to defend herself against the uncalled for criticism.

"The particular scene in the film demanded it and I should do justice to my role. No movie should be judged solely on the basis of a lip-lock scene. It should be seen as a whole. People accepted Geetha Govindam and I am sure about this movie as well', Rashmika told a leading daily.

While Rashmika has reacted to the the social media cacophony, her 'Geetha Govindam' co-star, who was also criticised for having lip-lock scenes in every film of his since 'Arjun Reddy', is yet to respond to the ongoing controversy.

'Dear Comrade' is said to have a deep-rooted connection to the politics of violence. While Vijay plays a student leader with Communist leanings, Rashmika will be seen playing his love interest in Bharat Kamma's film.

The film is simultaneously being made in four languages - Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam. Co-produced by Mythri Movie Makers and Big Ben Cinemas, 'Dear Comrade' hist the big screens on May 31.
