Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Baiju Bawra?

Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, who charmed the audience and critics alike with their flawless performance in Gully Boy, might come together for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's ambitious project Baiju Bawra.

Mumbai: Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Baiju Bawra might reunite the filmmaker with his blue-eyed boy Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, the lead actor of his ongoing venture Gangubai Kathiawadi.

Reports of Alia and Ranveer reuniting for Bhansali's Baiju Bawra has caught the frenzy of tinseltown's close circuit. If the latest buzz is anything to go by, the Gully Boy duo will be playing the lead in the film which is said to be based on a 1952 Hindi film with the same title. Baiju Bawra starred Bharat Bhushan as Baiju, with Meena Kumari playing his love interest Gauri.

Ranveer shares a great bond with SLB is known. Their all three outings together, Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela (2013), Padmaavat (2018) and Bajirao-Mastani (2015), had thunderous run at the box office, it would be interesting to see these two coming together yet again for the musical. On the other hand, with Gangubai Kathiawadi, Alia will be ticking off one item from her wish list as her dream of being a heroine in Bhansali's film has realised.

Baiju Bawra, a story of two singers, will have nearly a dozen songs, will be Bhansali's first fullfledged musical. The Black director, who officially started composing music for his own films since Goliyon Ki Rasleela: Ram-Leela, is giving it his own best shot. The filmmaker has earlier said that the film is the biggest challenge as a composer.

"I am not even thinking of the colossal music Naushad saab did in Baiju Bawra in 1952. It is impossible to scale those heights," SLB had said.

The musical saga, which is billed as a "revenge story of a maverick maestro", is scheduled to hit the big screens on Diwali 2021.
