Rani kickstarts 'Mardaani 2' shoot in Mumbai

Rani Mukerji is all set to strike back as feisty senior inspector Shivani Shivaji Roy with the second instalment of her 2014 release 'Mardaani'. Yash Raj Films took to social media to announce the beginning of 'Mardaani 2'. For the sequel, YRF has dropped Pradeep Sarkar as the director and escalated Gopi Puthran to helm the project who had written the first part and was associate director with Sarkar.

Mumbai: Actress Rani Mukerji, who was last seen on screen in 'Hichki' has kickstarted shooting for the second instalment of her 2014 release 'Mardaani'. Produced by Yash Raj Films, 'Mardaani 2' will be directed by Gopi Puthran.

Helmed by Pradeep Sarkar, 'Mardaani' featured Rani as a feisty senior inspector named Shivani Shivaji Roy, who took on the kingpin of a child trafficking racket played by Tahir Raj Bhasin.

The actress in an earlier interview said that the first part of the movie is very close to her heart and cannot wait to start filming 'Mardaani 2'."Gopi has written an extraordinary script that we all love and I can't wait to start shooting this film soon," Rani said in a statement.

Rani also gave a sneak peek into the character of the chilling villain who she will have a big face off with.

"Shivani will face a cold, merciless villain who has no empathy, no fear of God and is pure evil. The character has been written superbly and I'm excited to find out who the actor will be," she added.

The Edge-of-the-seat entertainer will release in the later half of 2019.
