Mumbai: Following the court's order to take appropriate action, police have finally arrested the woman who earlier had made false allegations against television actor Karan Oberoi.
The woman had earlier levelled rape and extortion charges against him. But, the court had observed that the woman had orchestrated the attack on herself.
Granting bail of Rs 50,000 to the actor, Bombay high court in its order directed the police to take appropriate action against the woman.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Manjunath Shinge confirmed the woman's arrest by the Oshiwara Police for filing a false complaint against Oberoi and orchestrating an assault on herself on May 25.
The woman had earlier claimed that on May 25, two motorcycle-borne men assaulted her and left a note purportedly asking her to "take back" her case against Oberoi, failing which they threatened to splash acid on her.
A couple of days later, the police arrested the duo who confessed that the attack was pre-planned and they were paid Rs 10,000 for it.
Meanwhile, Karan Oberoi along with many other actors and men activists participated in a peaceful Dharna at Azad Maidan for voicing their support in the #MenToo movement. The purpose of this gathering was to spread awareness about the misuse of law and falsely accusing men of rape and other charges.
