Olympics: Taapsee, Vicky and others laud women hockey team for historic entry into semifinals

Bollywood celebrities are hailing the Indian women's hockey team for defeating world No. 2 Australia in the quarterfinals to storm into the last four stages. The team has made their maiden entry into the medal round with a brilliant performance against a team that had dominated the tournament so far and was one of the favourites to win the gold medal.

Hyderabad:Taking inspiration from the men's team that got into the medal rounds after a gap of four decades, Indian women's hockey scripted a historic moment of their own by making their maiden entry into the semifinals at the Tokyo Olympic Games on Monday. Celebrating the historic moment, celebrities like Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, Neha Dhupia and others have lauded the team for giving the nation 'real Chak De India' moment.

Lauding the women hockey team, Taapse, who has played the sport in two of her films, Manmarziyaan and Soorma, took to Twitter and wrote, "Our chakk de moment never felt more real! Our girls beat Aussies 1-0 and storm into semis !!!! Go for it @imranirampal your girls have our heart! Flag of IndiaRaising hands."

While speaking to reporters outside Rajya Sabha, actor and Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan said, "I hope the women's hockey team advances to the final and win it, and make the country proud."

Sharing a video from the game, Neha Dhupia wrote, "Yaaaaaasssssss we are in the semis Flag of India the Indian women’s hockey team … what a win!!!!! #ChakDeIndia #IndianHockey @WeAreTeamIndia #OlympicGames #Tokyo2020."

Meanwhile, Vicky Kaushal shared a picture of the elated team and wrote, "Into the semis! Cmon India!!!"

In what comes as a historic day and possibly the greatest moment for women's hockey in India, Gurjit Kaur scored the lone goal in the match during the first half through a penalty corner in a very tightly contested match.
