Obstacles will come, but we should not give up on #Metoo: Taapsee

Taapsee Pannu says the #MeToo wave shouldn't lose its momentum as it is important for women to speak out against sexual harassment.

Mumbai: Bollywood actor Taapsee Pannu recently backed up the #MeToo movement saying that people shouldn't stop raising their voice against sexual harassment at workplace.

Taapsee voiced her opinion two days after filmmaker Vikas Bahl was acquitted of allegations of sexual misconduct levelled by a former employee of the Phantom Films. Bahl was reinstated as the director after getting a clean chit.

Not only Bahl but Alok Nath who was earlier accused of rape by writer-director Vinta Nanda featured in the latest release 'De De Pyar De' despite the charges.

Talking about the situation, Taapsee said, "Look, if the person who is accused of sexual harassment, doesn't get punished, of course the spirit of the movement, the spirit of a woman who comes out with the story of abuse in public, gets shattered.

"However, that should not stop other girls from raising their voices if they are abused...because girls have stayed silent for ages.

"We all can see how a collective consciousness has come into the picture since the #MeToo movement started. Nothing will change overnight, but we should not give up on the situation and tolerate abuse."

The 'Pink' actor further said that people shouldn't give up on the #MeToo movement as if we did then there won't be any change in future.

"Obstacles will come, but we should not give up. This is a transformative time and therefore it is difficult but if we do not continue, the change will not come in future," said the actress.

On the work front, Taapsee will be next seen in a mystery thriller 'Game Over'. The movie will hit the screens on June 14.
