Mumbai: Actor turned politician Nusrat Jahan has called out the decision to ban Chinese app TikTok as "impulsive," and compared the government's decision to demonetisation.

"It's an impulsive decision. What's the strategic plan? What about people who will be unemployed? People will suffer like demonetisation," ANI quoted Nusrat as saying.

She further stated: "I don't have any problem with the ban as it is for national security but who'll answer these questions?"

Speaking about TikTok ban, the TMC MP shared her views on the sidelines of the Ulta Rath Yatra celebrations at an Iskcon temple in Kolkata.

The ban has reportedly been enforced under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, 2000 (Power to issue directions for blocking for public access of any information through any computer resource), citing threat to India's sovereignty and security.

On Tuesday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata remarked: "Only banning some apps will not give the results. We want to give China a befitting reply and how we do it, that the government has to decide."

"If the government takes any stand against China, we want it to be implemented without any exceptions. We have to be very aggressive," said Mamata Banerjee.

The decision to ban Chinese apps comes in the wake of the military disputes arising at Galwan valley in Ladakh.

In the violent face-off between Indian and Chinese troops, 20 Indian soldiers have lost their lives.
