Nusrat Jahan doesn't want to dignify trolls by responding

Nusrat Jahan reflects on how she handles social media criticism and opinions which questions her faith.

Mumbai: Nusrat Jahan, the actor-turned-politician has apparenlty worked out a sorted way of looking at the sexist trolls on social media. The TMC MP also clarifies that she leads her life on her own terms thus it's nobody else's business to decide on what she wears or whom she marries.

When Nusrat got married to Nikhil Jain in June this year, their inter-faith marriage broke mayhem on the internet. Cut to days later, when Nusrat attends Parliament sporting sindoor, the keyboard warriors unleashed a firestorm of criticism against the newlywed.

However, the sexist trolls and criticism on her following Hindu customs could not hamper Nusrat who do not see any point in sticking to communal lines since she judges people by their humanity.

In her recent interview with a leading tabloid, the 29-year-old pored her heart out on how she handles the wrath of social media.

Nusrat said that the trolls were too insignificant and she didn't want to dignify them with a response. She also said that she is free to make choices for herself.

"I think one should look beyond the fact that I'm an MP sometimes and realise that I am also my own human being and I get to make my own choices about what to wear and whom to marry," Nusrat quipped.

Her wedding took over the internet, not for the dreamy pictures from the Turkish town Bodrum but for the religion of her groom.

"Nobody else can take a call on my life. I judge people by their humanity. In Nikhil, I found a really nice human being and I took a call. It's nobody else's business. It is bizarre that we ares till so stuck on communal lines," Nusrat added.

The 'Ami Je Ke Tomar' star also opened up about the backlash she was subjected to by a small section of Muslim leaders who apparently thought she has become "less Islamic by adopting certain Hindu customs".

"Religion is as much mine as theirs. You cannot just take away someone's religion from them, you aren't entitled to do that," she asserted.

On the film front, Nusrat, who was last seen in 2018 release 'Naqaab', is yet to sign her upcoming film.
