Mumbai (Maharashtra): Lata Mangeshkar, India's singing icon, was cremated with full state honours on Sunday evening. Top dignitaries including PM Narendra Modi reached Shivaji Park in Dadar here to pay their respects to the legendary singer who passed away today morning at Breach Candy Hospital. She was 92.
A spokesperson for the hospital said the legendary singer breathed her last at 8.12 am due to post-Covid multi-organ failure after 28 days in the hospital. She had been admitted on January 8 after she was diagnosed with COVID-19 and pneumonia. Though she reportedly recovered from COVID, Mangeshkar was put on ventilator support after her condition worsened on Saturday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences over the demise of the legendary singer.

Apart from PM Modi, actor Amitabh Bachchan and other leading personalities from the political sphere and the film industry paid their tributes to iconic singer Lata Mangeshkar in Mumbai. PM Modi offered floral tributes to the singing legend when her mortal remains were brought to Shivaji Park. After paying tributes and consoling Mangeshkar's family members, the Prime Minister left.
Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil, Union minister Piyush Goyal, NCP president Sharad Pawar, state ministers Chhagan Bhujbal, Subhash Desai, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, Bollywood actors Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, lyricist Javed Akhtar, filmmakers Ashutosh Gowarikar, Madhur Bhandarkar, singers Anuradha Paudwal, Mika Singh, Kailash Kher also paid their tributes at Shivaji Park. Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar and municipal commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal, were among those who attended the funeral.
Prior to that, megastar Amitabh Bachchan, former Maharashtra chief minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and other prominent personalities paid their tributes to Mangeshkar at her Pedder Road residence 'Prabhu Kunj', where her body was kept before being taken to Shivaji Park. Earlier, her mortal remains draped in the national flag were taken in a truck from her residence in south Mumbai to Shivaji Park for the last rites. A large number of people thronged the roads from where the cortege passed as the melody queen embarked on her final journey.
