Mumbai: 61 personalities including actor Kangana Ranaut, lyricist Prasoon Joshi, classical dancer and MP Sonal Mansingh, instrumentalist Pandit Vishwa, Mohan Bhatt, filmmakers Madhur Bhandarkar and Vivek Agnihotri wrote an open letter against 'selective outrage and false narratives'.

"An open letter which has been published on July 23 2019, and addressed to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has astonished us. Forty nine self-styled 'guardians' and conscience keepers' of the nation... have expressed selective concern and demonstrated a clear political bias and motive," the letter reads.

"Some people are misusing their position to generate a false narrative that under this Govt things are going wrong, whereas for first-time things are going in the right direction," said Kangana in an official statement.

The actor also said that those who disagree with the will of the large quarter of society have no respect for democracy.

"We are a part of a major shift, things are changing for the betterment of the nation and few people are rattled by this. Common people have chosen their leaders, ones who disregard people's will are the ones who have no respect or consideration for democracy," the National Award-winning actor further added.

CBFC chairperson Prasoon accused the 49 personalities who wrote PM expressing their concerns over the growing the cases of lynching in India, of creating a "false narrative".

"They (49 people who wrote to PM Modi) seem hell-bent to portray that there is deliberate wrongdoing prevalent- thereby dishonestly creating a false narrative," said Joshi.
