Jai Bhim dethrones The Shawshank Redemption to top IMDB's list

Headlined by Suriya, Jai Bhim has overtaken cult classic The Shawshank Redemption to claim the number one spot in IMDB's top 250 movies list. The film is a thought-provoking story inspired by real-life incidents based on the life of popular advocate and judge - Justice Chandru. It talks about how the judge went beyond the call of duty to serve justice.

Chennai (Tamil Nadu): Critically acclaimed courtroom drama Jai Bhim, featuring actors Suriya, Lijo Mol Jose and Manikandan in the lead, has overtaken cult classic The Shawshank Redemption to claim the number one spot in IMDB's top 250 movies list.

The Tamil film, directed by Gnanavel and produced by Suriya's 2D Entertainment, got a rating of 9.6, helping it take the top position.

Frank Darabont's The Shawshank Redemption, with a rating of 9.3 is in second position while Francis Ford Coppola's classic The Godfather is in third position with a rating of 9.2.

The other films that figure in the top 10 positions include Steven Spielberg's Schindler's List, Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction and Christopher Nolan's Inception.

Inspired by the life of popular advocate and judge - Justice Chandru, Jai Bhim tells the moving story of an upright lawyer coming to the aid of poor, defenceless people from the Irular community who have no means to stand up to the might of an inhuman police force that seeks to exploit their helplessness.

The film catered to a broad set of audiences across demographics as it released in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam.
