Speaking about dealing with homosexuality in the realm of the commercial Hindi cinema, Ayushmann Khurrana said that India is ready to accept such contents, adding that the response towards his next film Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan trailer has been incredible.

Kolkata: Actor Ayushmann Khurrana who is awaiting the release of his upcoming film Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan said that the country is ready for homosexual content.

He also said that the amount of appreciation his forthcoming film's trailer has received is incredible.

He revealed: "Three years back I had given an interview to Filmfare and I was actively looking for a homosexual love story. I think India is ready for this. The kind of appreciation we have received for Subh Mangal Zyaada Saavdhan trailer is a testimony that India is absolutely ready for it."

Giving credit to the film's director, Ayushmann further added: "The credit solely goes to Hitesh Kewalya. The kind of script he has written is unbelievable. We are not shying away from anything The core subject is a love story between two boys. It is not parallel, it is not by the way. I'm glad that our country is ready for it."

The actor was in Kolkata to attend a literary festival in the city where he spoke about his upcoming film which is based on homosexuality.

Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan would be another case study, the actor said, calling it the first film dealing with homosexuality in the realm of the commercial Hindi cinema.

He explained: "In parallel or art house cinema we have seen films dealing with homosexuality. But those were the films catering to the converted. The audience watching these films are within the LGBT community already."

"We want to reach out to people, who are averse to homosexuality. This is the first Hindi mainstream commercial film in India based on homosexuality. We hope it will at least usher in the conversation and have a discussion on LGBTQ," concluded Ayushmann.
