Hrishikesh to direct biopic on internet sensation Ranu Mondal

Journalist turned independent filmmaker Hrishikesh Mondal is all set to direct a biopic on railway platform singer turned internet sensation Ranu Mondal. The shooting for the film is expected to begin by October end.

Mumbai: Independent filmmaker Hrishikesh Mondal who had earlier directed a biopic on female footballer Kusumita Das is now gearing up to direct a biopic on internet sensation Ranu Mondal.

The National Award-winning Bengali actress Sudipta Chakraborty has been offered the role of Ranu in the biopic to be made on the railway platform singer.

In a recent interview with IANS, the Bariwali actress said: "Yes, I have been offered the film. However, I am yet to receive a script. I will decide if I want to play the character only after reading the script."

Helmed by the journalist-turned-independent filmmaker, the film titled Platform Singer Ranu Mondal will chronicle the journey of the singer from Ranaghat railway station in West Bengal to Bollywood.

Speaking of casting Sudipta in Ranu's role, Hrishikesh said: "Sudipta Chakraborty has been approached for the role, but she is yet to give her nod. I think if anyone can pull off the character with perfection, it is Sudipta di. She is a brilliant actress."

He further added: "If Sudipta agrees to play Ranu in the film, the rest of the cast will be finalised soon and shooting could begin by October-end."

Produced by Shubhojeet Mondal, the film will be shot across various places in Mumbai, Kolkata and Ranu's hometown Ranaghat West Bengal.

Platform Singer Ranu Mondal is expected to hit theatres on February 2020.

Sidhu from the music band Cactus will be composing the music for the film.
