Mumbai: Neena Gupta, the name which was primarily associated with the 'New Wave' in Indian cinema, is also a creative force behind cult television shows of 90s. The National Award-winning actor got stereotyped and was offered only negative roles in the early days of her career due to her public image and personal life. Though she is a baby boomer how she reinvented herself with the help of social media could make millennials run for their money.

The Delhi-born multifaceted talent has often made heads turn with her irreverent lifestyle, shocked everyone in 2017 when she took to social media and confessed openly that she was out of work. A comeback for the talented actress happened soon, with Veere Di Wedding and Badhaai Ho. Since then, she has had busy second innings.

While the world is braving the scourge of COVID-19, talents across the film and television industry are going through a tense phase of looming uncertainty. During the times of crisis, how Neena became her own crusader to claim her place in the industry which is infamous for agism, is a lesson every young dreamer would find of great help to keep the perspective right.

After Badhaai Ho, Neena appeared in the Netflix film Music Teacher, Amazon Prime Video web series Made In Heaven as well as a feature film titled The Last Color, which has travelled to many international film festivals globally. The film also won the Best Feature Film and Best Actress award at the Indian International Film Festival of Boston.

Asked if she still has the fear of being out of work, the actor who is nailing Instagram with her wit and quirky sense of humour, had laughed at the question while making a pertinent point that the nature of the acting profession is full of uncertainty but she trusts hard work and tries to keep moving on taking at what life has to throw at her on the chin.
