Trinamool Congress MP Derek O'Brien gifted tickets of Deepika's upcoming film Chhapaak to colleagues. It seems to be an initiative to support Deepika who is being highly criticized for her visit to violence-hit Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).

Mumbai: Trinamool Congress MP Derek O'Brien has taken an initiative to voice his support for Deepika Padukone, who is being highly criticised by a section of people after her visit to Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). He gifted tickets of Deepika's upcoming film Chhapaak to colleagues.

Amidst several of hashtags on Twitter condemning Deepika's visit, Derek O'Brien tweeted '#IStandwithDeepika' and booked tickets of her upcoming film Chhapaak for a couple who works with him.

"First day. First show. #ChhapakDekhoTapaakSe. Tickets bought. And gifted to a young couple who work with me. Enjoy on Friday morning. #IStandwithDeepika," the TMC MP tweeted with a photo of the tickets he booked for the couple.

After wrapping up the promotions of Chhapaak in Delhi, Deepika paid a surprise visit to JNU, where several students, including JNUSU president Aishe Ghosh, were injured in an attack by a masked mob over the weekend.

After Deepika visited paid a visit to the JNU campus on Tuesday night to express solidarity with students and faculty following the January 5 violence, a few BJP leaders are also asking "Hindus to boycott Deepika Padukone and her movie".
